Photography is a way of life. The eye is a tool that needs training. But you cannot see everything and you must accept this limitation. In order to fulfill your task, you also have to constantly carry a load of heavy machines. The relationship between the operator, his machines and the outside world is to be kept properly balanced. Cameras and lenses can be intoxicating. Leica, Rolleiflex, Nikon, Hasselblad, Linhof…Mastering the techniques of light, framing and composition in order to transform a three dimensional world into a small flat surface can mask the goal to be achieved.
People are for me the most enthralling challenge since they have the power, through their mystery, to pull me out of my attraction to the camera machinery.
To keep my eyes fresh, I started to broaden my scope and got interested in what gets into my ears. I became attracted by the world of audio. Hence all these portraits of sound related people and the Soundstrips documentaries on this subject that I have been making for the last 7 years.
